Creative Sessions for 5-6 year olds

This workshop is designed for 5-6 year olds to have fun and learn some new art skills with their parent/guardian/grown-up.

The sessions will be based around the process of art rather than about the final product. There will be mark-making with a wide range of materials, using different tools and looking at basic techniques which can develop new skills and improve dexterity. 

Led by Yeovil-based artist Celia Brokenshire, Celia’s work is vibrant, colourful and full of light, her energy and enthusiasm for art-making is shared in these sessions.

Celia says, ‘We will share fun ways to explore your mini artist’s creativity and self-expression, providing ‘Hints and Tips’ for parents/guardians too in creating fun art with your child.’

No previous art skills are required.  Come along and learn some simple, effective and economical ideas. Just having a go will promote confidence in both you and your child. Bring your own snacks. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy!

Note: Activity is taking place on the ground floor. The toilet is located on the 1st floor. We will NOT provide hot drinks or food at the venue for the safety of young children. However, you are welcome to bring a cold drink and snack with you.

About Yeovil Mini Creatives

Yeovil Mini Creatives was originally a project for families with pre-school aged children, created by a collaboration of artists and professionals, supported by The Local Connections Fund distributed by The National Community Lottery Funding in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic.

We created a booklet to contain activities and information, specially designed for pre-schoolers. 500 booklets were distributed during the Easter Holidays in 2021 via local nurseries, Ninesprings Cafe and via direct mailing.
