Yeovil Creatives Annual Exhibition

Yeovil Art Space present their annual members show this month with a new exhibition titled ‘Finding Calm In the Chaos’

The exhibition will showcase more than 20 artists from the Yeovil Creatives, the artist collective behind Yeovil Art Space.  Established in 2020, the Yeovil Creatives have more than 60 members who live locally across the border of Somerset and Dorset.  It promises an array of artworks, from painting and textiles to sculpture and photography, from contemporary art to traditional craft as well as poetry.

With the theme decided on by the members, ‘Finding Calm in the Chaos’ invited artists to share their ideas on finding a moment of peace in a busy and hectic world. Reflecting on the two states of being or sharing how they achieve calm, the creatives use the exhibition to emphasise how Art in itself is a valuable route to achieving a slower pace and aiding self-care.  

The exhibition highlights the value in combining arts and creativity with health and wellbeing.  Part of the Yeovil Art Space aims to make Yeovil a better place for the town’s community and visitors, sharing the charity’s mission to lead social change in Yeovil through creativity. 

With a welcoming gallery space in the town’s Quedam centre the charity invites visitors from near and far to come and take a moment. To slow down and view art, which in itself is being seen as a step towards positive wellbeing.

The Yeovil Creatives membership offers a peer support network in the area, with an overarching mission to ‘Make Yeovil Creative’. The group consists of practising artists as well as emerging artists and with diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.  Their regular monthly meetings offer a mixture of skill based workshops, talks and making sessions, and is a popular social event led by members for the members. 

The group is at the heart of the Yeovil Art Space charity and provides a strong creative workforce for Yeovil Art Space beyond its presence in the High Street. Far from just showcasing their work in the gallery space, they are part of the Yeovil Art Space team,  delivering activities in the Quedam, as well as different community spaces and schools across Yeovil for all ages and all backgrounds.  

Membership coordinator Jess Egan says,

“It is always a delight to see work from our diverse network of creatives come together in a show. It is an absolute celebration of individuality and creativity in our town.”
