Call for Expression of Interest – Yeovil Art Space Trustees
Yeovil Art Space is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our Board of Trustees to develop the ambitions and shape the future of the organisation.
Over the last five years, we have collaborated with our partners, creatives, and communities to co-create arts and culture that is relevant to Yeovil, aiming to support cultural and social change and contribute to the local economy. We are strategically positioned in the town centre and key to the local regeneration plan. Our creative programme offers everyone a safe space and opportunity to share, learn and be inspired, empowering their creative journeys and wellbeing.
We are at a pivotal moment in developing our future sustainability and partnerships, ensuring our art and culture-led offer brings a long-lasting impact on the town’s community across different generations and backgrounds. We are operated by a team of dedicated and highly committed professionals who offer their skills and experience in a freelance and part-time capacity.
Our organisational culture is collaborative with a growing ambition to reimagine the town, constantly contributing to communities and strategic partnerships. We are currently working with the newly established Town Board to: deliver the meanwhile use strategy of Glovers Walk; develop the MY TOWN heritage project with the Art & Heritage Working Group; deliver the OUR TOWN art project with our Art Action Group; and collaborate with our Yeovil Creatives members to bring creative activities across Yeovil.

About the Role & Responsibilities
By becoming a Yeovil Art Space Trustee, you are joining us to make a difference in Yeovil. Yeovil Art Space is a registered charity, and you will be a key part of the non-executive Trustee Board, working collaboratively with our Leadership Team, an executive team that manages freelancers, project delivery, administration, and day-to-day running of the charity.
Your duties will include:
- Providing a governance role, working with our leadership team to ensure our priorities and strategies are consistent with our charitable aims and objectives
- Attending board meetings, approximately 4x per year in person or online; 1x planning meeting and attending the AGM
- Monitoring the implementation of our business plan, advancing our organisational aims and actively engaging in shaping future strategy
- Being responsible for the performance of the charity and its behaviour, ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
- Overseeing our fundraising activities, approving the budget and monitoring spending to ensure the charity’s financial sustainability
You do not need to have experience working in the arts and cultural sector, as long as you are passionate about what we do. We are particularly looking for individuals who can contribute to the following areas:
- Community development
- Business strategy and management
- Charity law and policy
- Fundraising and income generation
- Diversity and Inclusion
- Mental health and wellbeing
- National and international art connections
- Public art, planning and capital development
- Organisational development in operations
We welcome individuals who bring a diverse range of experiences and expertise, so we can be relevant and make a real impact on the community that we serve. We are keen to hear from individuals who have lived experience and backgrounds, whether from the LGBTQIA+ and/or d/Disabled community, or part of the global majority. We are committed to increasing diversity in our leadership and governance, to ensure we truly listen and learn from those who would like to make a genuine contribution to what we do. If you’re contemplating a Trustee role but are uncertain, please contact us for an informal chat, so you can find out more and help you to make an informed decision about joining our mission to make a difference.

Onboarding Process
Once you send us your expression of interest, we will arrange an informal chat between you and our Trustee Chair and Leadership Team. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you more, also for you to find out more about what we do and the role. Before the formal trustee appointment is made, should we both agree upon it, you will take part in an onboarding programme, including an induction on the requirements of a trustee, meeting our team members and attending our trustee meetings as an observer. This process will equip you with the knowledge and understanding you need, ensure you are familiar with our mission, operations, and legal framework, so you are confident to provide cohesive support to the charity with the other Trustees and to fulfil the roles and responsibilities effectively. There will be a chance to review the decision before you fully sign up at our AGM in December You will then officially become a Trustee from April 2026.
